Vitamin D is a fat-soluble, fat-soluble vitamin. It is usually in two forms:
• Vitamin D2 or ergocalciferol
• Vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol (the most digestible form)
Vitamin D3 is found in the body and has a dual origin. It is synthesized by the epidermis under the effect of ultraviolet radiation, and in a lesser quantity, it is brought by food. It is stored mainly in the blood, muscles, fat, liver and kidneys.

Vitamin D, after conversion, has two main physiological functions:
• Promote optimal mineralization of mineralized tissue during and after growth (bone, cartilage and teeth)
• Contribute to the maintenance of calcium homeostasis.
These two functions result first of all from the actions of vitamin D on the intestine, which is the main factor increasing the ability of the intestine to absorb calcium and phosphorus.
